Let's design your kitchen.
Book an in-home measure, or send us your measurements and photos. Either way, our team draws your kitchen in 3D and sends you the design with a full price.
Grab your tools
You need a tape measure, paper and a pencil, and your phone for photos. Write every number in inches. It takes about 20 minutes.
- A second person to hold the tape makes it easier.
- Measure twice. Small mistakes add up.
Sketch your kitchen from above
Draw the room like you are looking down from the ceiling. Name the walls A, B, C going clockwise.
- Mark windows, doors and openings.
- Mark where the sink (S), range (R) and fridge (F) are, or where you want them.
- Neat isn't needed. You'll snap a photo of it at the end.
Measure the ceiling height
Measure from the floor to the ceiling in two or three spots and write down the smallest number.
- If there is a soffit or bulkhead over the cabinets, measure floor to the bottom of it too, and how deep it sticks out.
Measure each wall, corner to corner
Measure the full length of each wall that gets cabinets. Do it twice: once at counter height (about 36" up) and once up high (about 84"). Use the smaller number. Walls are rarely perfectly square.
Measure the wall, not your old cabinets or countertop. Your wall numbers will be bigger than the cabinet length because of corners and appliances. That's normal; our team does that math.
Windows, doors and openings
Always measure from the left corner of the wall. Include the trim around windows and doors.
- Window: left corner to the edge of the trim, trim-to-trim width, floor to the bottom of the trim, and top of the trim to the ceiling.
- Door or opening: left corner to the trim, and trim-to-trim width. Note which way the door swings.
Tap Back and add these to each wall in step 4, or just write them on your sketch.
Plumbing, power and vents
From the left corner, measure to the center of:
- The sink drain and water lines
- The gas line or range outlet
- Outlets, switches, and any vents or pipes on the walls or floor
Moving the sink or range? Just note where you want it now.
Appliances
Write the width, height and depth of each appliance you are keeping or buying: fridge, range, dishwasher, microwave, hood. If you are buying new ones, the model numbers are even better.
Take your photos
Stand back so the whole wall fits in the picture, then take:
- One straight-on photo of each wall
- Each corner, the sink area and each appliance
- A photo of your sketch with all the numbers on it
Tip: leave the tape measure stretched out in a photo or two. It helps our team a lot.
